The bystander approach and the prevention of sexual violence

One in three women across the EU report having experienced some form of physical or sexual abuse. 20% of young women (18-29) in EU have experienced cyber harassment. Recently protesters armed with hashtags like #MeToo and #BalanceTonPorc, are breaking the culture of silence around sexual violence. These viral campaigns have once again revealed the ubiquity of sexual assault, but how to we turn the current wave of outrage on social media into changing the behaviors and attitudes that have resisted generations of efforts all over Europe? How do we heal from the trauma of being a victim of abuse? How can we shift from condemnation to prevention of sexual violence? Learn about the bystander approach to sexual violence prevention which encourages the community to take ownership of sexual violence as a problem and speak up when they witness potentially dangerous situations or sexist language.
