2018 marks the anniversary of the tenth edition of Yo!Fest and the third time we join forces with the European Parliament to create the European Youth Event (EYE). Organised by the European Youth Forum, since its first edition, Yo!Fest takes over symbolic venues of the EU institutions to bring young people and their concerns directly to politicians.
Our sister magazine, YO!Mag, has been discussing the issues that matter to young people since 1980. Yo!Fest was the natural evolution of 37 years of young people expressing their views.
Yo!Fest acts to support the mobilisation of young people to influence change. Every year, we provide a platform through which individuals, self-organising movement, grass-roots organisations and established networks can shape ideas in a creative, fun and vibrant space.
At Yo!Fest we focus on the issue and then look for a solution. We bridge the gap between decision makers, influencers and young people to bring about lasting change.
The European Youth Forum is the largest platform of youth organisations in Europe. The European Youth Forum represents 104 youth organisations, both National Youth Councils and International Non-Governmental Youth Organisations. It brings together tens of millions of young people from all over Europe, organised in order to represent their common interests. The vision of the European Youth Forum is to be the voice of young people in Europe, where young people are equal citizens and are encouraged and supported to achieve their fullest potential as global citizens.
The 3rd edition of the European Youth Event (EYE) represents a unique opportunity for young Europeans to make their voices heard. Organised by the European Parliament since 2014, it’s the largest platform gathering thousands of young people to discuss with decision makers and come up with ideas for the future of Europe. After every EYE, a report is compiled and presented to MEPs, with young people’s ideas for the future of Europe.
The European Parliament is an important forum for political debate and decision-making at the EU level. The Members of the European Parliament are directly elected by voters in all Member States to represent people’s interests with regard to EU law-making and to make sure other EU institutions are working democratically.
First edition of Yo!Fest launched by Giuseppe Porcaro, former Secretary General of the European Youth Forum.
Yo!Fest takes place on the Esplanade of the European Parliament in Brussels growing exponentially from the first year, with 10,000 attendees.
The League of Young Voters was inaugurated at Yo!Fest with a hot air balloon in Place Luxembourg, Brussels, launched by Manuel Barroso. There were the usual mix of famous politicians and even royalty, with a Dutch princess as well as an astronaut attending!
